Review: Rise

Rise Rise by Dylan Allen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 Rise to the Challenge Stars

Addie is a lawyer in London. She is career oriented and focused on proving herself to those around her. She is determined to not need to rely on anyone for anything.

Simon is an up and coming architect. His focus is on his family and keeping his secrets close to his chest.

A day out with her family and best friend, Cara, Addie enjoys the beauty of London. As Cara runs into an old friend, Louis, she introduces Addie to Simon, a friend of Louis. The attraction is instant and intense.

As insta-attracted as these two are to one another, it takes months--and another accidental meeting--before the attraction has the opportunity to become anything greater than acquaintances.

Life keeps dragging these two apart. Just as you think things will work for them, a screw is thrown into the wheel and they are pulled apart. Mostly it's Simon running. Running from his situation and running from having to bring anyone else into his difficult life.

Both running from a past that was completely out of their control, they find themselves hurting each other and themselves in effort to protect each other.

It's hard to believe this is a debut author. The subject matter is deep and relevant. the feelings are real and well-written. The characters feelings jump from the pages. I'm impressed with Dylan Allen and I can't wait to see where this new author takes these characters.
