   Excerpt
It’s a little after eight when the sound of the front door closing wakes me up from the nap I wasn’t planning on taking. Apparently, doing absolutely nothing all day long is very exhausting. I leap out of the bed and take a quick glimpse in the mirror, straightening my shirt and finger-styling my hair before heading downstairs. I’m honestly not sure what to expect from Mia, if she’ll pretend like nothing happened or want to address the situation, but her avoiding me and the house all day tells me she’s probably reluctant to let it transpire again. I need to convince her otherwise. With her back to me amidst a sea of overflowing plastic grocery bags, she’s bent over in the refrigerator, rearranging the contents to make room for the massive amount of food she’s just bought. The shirt she has on has ridden up on her hips, leaving me a clear view of her shapely ass which fills out the pair of black cotton shorts she’s wearing impeccably. All of the blood in my body has redirected its flow to directly between my legs as I imagine what it’d be like to take her from behind… my hands grabbing hold of her hips, her back arched presenting that tight, wet pussy to me. Fuck, I can’t go up to her with my shorts tented out like it’s housing a three-ring circus. “I know you’re there, Gray,” she announces before I can escape back to the safety of my room. “We need to talk.” Talking wasn’t really what I had in mind, but I can work with it. I slowly inch my way farther into the kitchen, trying desperately to think of all things non-sexy such as yield return graphs and profit-loss spreadsheets, but with her head buried in the fridge and her ass still in the air, I’m failing epically. “Yeah?” I don’t mean for it to come out like a question, so I clear my throat and try again. “Yeah, we do.” Straightening to her full height, which can’t be more than about five-foot-five, she gradually rotates around to face me. With her firm rear no longer in my line of sight, my eyes travel up her body, lingering over her erect nipples straining against the light blue shirt, which cause me to wonder if it’s the cold air they were just exposed to or my presence that has them aroused. My eyes eventually find hers, and no matter what words are about to leave her mouth, I know by the heated gaze she’s watching me with—the one that’s relishing the way I’m eye-fucking her—that she wants this as bad as I do. Gaining confidence, my small steps graduate into long strides until I’ve closed the distance between us in a matter of seconds. She backs up slightly, but with the large stainless appliance behind her, she’s got nowhere to go. I wait to touch her, wait until she says whatever bullshit nonsense she’s got to say to make herself feel better, before I lay my hands on her and make her forget about whatever stupid-ass, preconceived set of rules society has put on our relationship. Truth is I’m a man, she’s a woman, neither of us is married, and we aren’t blood-related, so as far as I’m concerned, we’re good to fucking go.

Her story started long before she started working at The Sky Launch...

Screw fairytales. The only reward Gwen Anders got from her rough childhood was a thick skin and hard heart. She’s content with her daily grind managing a top NYC nightclub—Eighty-Eighth Floor. So hers isn’t a happily ever after. She doesn’t believe in those anyway.

Then she meets J.C.

The rich, smooth talking playboy is the sexiest thing that Gwen has ever encountered, but she’s not interested in a night-in-shining latex. But when a family tragedy pushes her to the brink, it’s J.C. who’s there to teach her a new method of survival, one based on following primal urges and desires. His no-strings-attached lessons require her to abandon her constant need for control. Her carefully built walls are obliterated.

Gwen discovers there’s a beautiful world outside her prison. Freedom is exhilarating—and terrifying. When she starts to feel something for J.C., she fears for her heart. Especially as she realizes that he has secrets of his own. Secrets that don't want to set him free.

“And his eyes…I couldn’t see them clearly in the darkness, but I felt them.”

I was truly blessed to be one of the very first people to read the finished amazingness that is this book, Free Me. Free Me is a spin off novel and the first book in a new duet from the bestselling, totally talented Laurelin Paige.

Gwen Anders is first introduced to us in Forever with You, book 3 in the Fixed Series, when she begins working at the Sky Launch for Alayna. We know very little about her, except that she is hiding from someone or something. I can honestly say I never thought in a million years that I would love this book, as much as I loved Hudson and Alayna’s story, but I was so very wrong. I fell completely in love with Gwen and JC. Gwen is a woman that has tried desperately to put her troublesome past behind her. Her sister Norma, and her brother Ben have had a pretty crappy childhood. Suffering from a violent and abusive father, they are closely bonded, and would do whatever it takes to protect each other. The relationship between them is genuine and touching. Norma being the oldest, she’s sacrificed a lot in order to ensure her siblings safety and happiness. Gwen loves her brother and sister fiercely and to that end, she’s not allowed herself to love anyone else. She doesn’t believe that she needs it. She fears it in some ways I think. She only needs them. She loves her job at the Eighty Eighth Floor, she gets along well with her co-workers, admires her boss and, most important of all, she remains in control at all times.

“I did like my job. It was steady and rhythmic. Managing gave me the opportunity to be no-nonsense and harsh. It was how I preferred to be. Cold. Hard. In Charge”

Being spontaneous is simply not who Gwen Anders is. Everything goes up in smoke when JC, handsome stranger, brash, and completely arrogant appears in her life. JC’s the kind of man you can’t help but get swoony in the presence of. He sees people in a way that strips them bare, he’s upfront, honest, but at the same time a complete mystery. He is a contradiction. A business man who regularly rents the Viper room in the club every Tuesday night (Gwen’s regular day off) to entertain associates, he’s used to getting exactly what he wants, when he wants it. Gwen is completely unprepared for the chaos that erupts when this man makes his appearance in her life. Caught up in the whirlwind that is JC, Gwen begins to question everything.

Why should she have to be so uptight all the time? What would it feel like to let go, even for a few moments? Is it possible for her to be happy? Is it possible to be free?

“What would it be like to be that uninhabited? To be that unrestrained?”

This book made me feel so many things; I had an epic book hangover afterwards. I had every feel possible, because it was impossible not to. Paige creates the most beautiful, sexy, emotional books, they give you all the things you want and even the ones you didn’t know you needed. Her storytelling and characters are magnificent. She delivers yet another bestseller here, I’m saying this now on the record, this is “that book”. The one that everyone is, once again, going to be shouting, raving and gushing about. She somehow always manages to make her next book better than the last. It’s a talent not many authors have, but all aspire to.

Beware there is a pretty huge cliff hanger at the end, when I flipped the page and realized it was over, I wanted to launch my kindle against the room! I needed more, I’m left hanging again, I need answers I need closure. GAHHHH! Free Me, is completely seductive, impassioned, captivating and devastating. I absolutely adored this book, bring on Find Me…I’m ready!

“The difference between who you are and who you want to be is what you do.”

**Disclaimer: I hate writing reviews, but I know they are appreciated.

A spin-off of The Fixed Trilogy. (my Huddy)

Gwen's story.
The first of a 2 book series (doesn't need to be read after the Fixed Trilogy)

We first met Gwen in the 3rd installment of the Fixed Trilogy, Forever With You. The sister of Hudson's right-hand woman, Norma, at Pierce Industries, Gwen has a wonderful story all her own. I fell in love with Gwen in this one...and JC, of course. Gimme more of him, please.

Honestly, I didn't think I'd love this story as much as I loved Hudson's, but I really did love it. I don't want to give anything away, but I can say that I laughed...and may have teared up a little. I had anxiety, and now...I have CLIFF! Now I have to wait to see how the story ends, but I KNOW it will be well worth the wait for Find Me.

Laurelin never disappoints.

NY Times & USA Today Bestselling author Laurelin Paige is a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however. When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Mad Men and the Walking Dead, or dreaming of Adam Levine.

TAKEN BY STORM is the latest electrifying love story from bestselling author Tamara Mataya.

Leilani’s plan was simple: Return for her father’s wedding, house sit for the happy couple while they
went on their honeymoon, then get the hell outta dodge. She’d thought the worst thing would be
returning to the town she grew up in (and despised). She was wrong.

A flash flood hits the small town, stranding firefighter, Ryan, and a few strangers at the local bar.
Worst of all, Leilani, his old high school rival – and last night’s scorching one-night-stand – is one of
the people stuck in the bar. With waters rising, they need to stick together and wait for rescue.

The power grid’s knocked out, and cell phones aren’t working. When the others panic and leave,
Leilani and Ryan are left alone in the dark. Fortunately, words aren’t necessary to keep the former
rivals warm. But when they’re forced to leave the refuge of each other's arms, they must navigate
the flood-ravaged town in order to find safe shelter.

The rising waters brought them together, but rising tempers might tear them apart.

TAKEN BY STORM is inspired by true events.

It was her, but she was so different, so warm and open, and her unabashed interest was irresistible.
Ryan noticed the way she’d copped a cheap feel when she ran into him in the hallway, but it was
endearing and she was even more gorgeous now that there was heat in her eyes. And she was just in
town for the wedding—he wouldn’t have to worry about her getting attached. He’d just decided to
ask her for a drink when she told him to go to her room. She was his friend’s sister. He should say no.

He didn’t.

Her hand was small in his, but she pulled him with a speed and strength that made him feel wanted,
and needed. It turned him on and completely obliterated his fatigue. All the times she’d screamed
his name on the field came rushing back, every glance he’d caught her giving him across the
cafeteria table before the interest left her eyes and she’d looked away. The times when her sharp
tongue and flashing gaze had torn his arguments to shreds in a debate. He’d wanted to scream at
her … and kiss her.

Maybe it was just high school hormones, but the thought of finally getting her alone and stilling her
smart mouth with his was driving him wild. He made it until they were behind closed doors before
he gave in to his body’s demands and kissed her. Her tongue stroked his. She was tiny but fierce, and
he had the impression she’d have climbed him like a tree if he took too long to kiss her. Her lips
curled into a smile and she pulled back. Her eyes were a rich, warm brown that melted his insides.

“No offense, but this—” she gestured from his chest to hers and back again, “is not going to go
anywhere.”

“That’s perfect.”

“I don’t normally do this. But I’ve had the day from hell and need it to get better right now. Are you
in? I want someone who can make me forget where I am. Make me forget my name. Do you want to
do that with me? Can you do that?” Her mouth resumed its delicious nibbling and sucking, making it
impossible for him to think.

Ryan had one major thing he wanted to forget about, even just for the night. He’d been trying to
forget about her for months. Five foot seven, one hundred forty pounds, blue eyes, cheating heart …
Leila’s coconut scented hair, and the way she pressed closer made his mouth water and his balls
ache. Make them both forget? Yeah. He’d become good at that.

He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her tightly against him, reveling in the feel of her warm,
pliant body smashed against his. He’d never felt hair so glossy, and it slipped through his fingers as if refusing to be captured. She moaned deep in her throat when he fisted a handful and claimed her
lips again. When her hands slid down his back and grabbed his ass, his hips jerked forward, pressing
his erection into her. Leila’s tongue went wild inside his mouth, spiraling and wrestling with his at a
frenzied pace.

Her flesh was hot beneath the thin red and white summer dress, and he skimmed it up her thighs,
and whisked it over her head. He traced the delicate curve of her waist and brushed his thumb just
beneath the bottom of her strapless bra. She shivered beneath his hands, made quick work of his
pants, and began undoing the buttons of his shirt with a gleam in her eyes.

5 Star Perfection

"Touching him was like taking the first deep breath after holding your breath for six years. She wanted him like her life depended on it."

Taken by Storm is based on actual events, and for me that makes this story
just that more engrossing. From page one Mataya sets the stage for a story
that captivated me.

I adore this author’s style of writing, her pacing and plotting are meticulous.
She creates characters that you cannot help but root for, and fall in love
with. Leila is beautiful, headstrong, independent, educated and successful.
Ryan is dedicated to his career, firefighting, taking care of his community
and all those who live in it. He’s strong, dominating, sexy, caring, seductive,
compassionate and Leila’s secret high school crush. Running in the same
circles in high school, Ryan was not oblivious to Leila’s beauty or her
charms; in fact he was very aware. Bound by loyalty to Leila’s brother he
managed to resist the temptation, but this time around, his superpowers
are wavering. Leila is Ryan’s kryptonite.

Years later, at her father’s wedding, a chance meeting brings them both a
night of seduction and decadence,  finally surrendering to years of sexual
tension and chemistry that simmered just below the surface.  Deluding
themselves into believing that this is just one night, no strings attached, no
consequences,  Leila and Ryan throw caution to the wind, yet not before
putting the DND sign on the hotel room door *wink wink*. Holy Hotness
Batman!

"You're doing me in, and I'm not even inside you yet."

The next day brings surprises, and not the fun kind, it all busts loose,
literally. The quaint town that Ryan has always called home, and everyone
he’s known his whole life are in very real danger, a flash flood, is
threatening to change everything forever.

"Never mind a paddle; they were up shit creek without a boat."

Taken by Storm gives romance readers so much than the typical love story.
A town paralyzed by a disaster no one could have ever seen coming,
people doing whatever it takes to survive, and pulling together, it’s truly
compelling. It’s a true testament to what people are capable of when
tested. The perseverance shown by these characters will leave you
cheering.

Drama, action, danger, lust, love, conflict, unique and heartfelt. Taken by
Storm is truly uplifting and gratifying. It’s outstanding!

Tamara Mataya is currently a librarian; she lurked there for so long recommending books to patronsand shushing people, that she suspects they only hired her so it would be less creepy. Now she’s armed with a name tag, and a thin veneer of credibility. She’s also a musician with synaesthesia – which isn't an issue until someone plays a wrong note, which makes her want to squirm inside out. It makes for a good live show.
