FGBB REVIEWS
JOCKBLOCKED (Gridiron Book 2)
BY JEN FREDERICKS

BLURB

She’s always played it safe…

College junior Lucy Washington abides by one rule—avoid risk at all costs. She’s cautious in every aspect of her life, from her health, to her mock trial team, to the boring guys she dates. When a brash, gorgeous jock walks into the campus coffeeshop and turns his flirt on, Lucy is stunned by the force of attraction. For the first time ever, she’s willing to step out of her comfort zone, but can she really trust the guy who’s determined to sweep her off her feet?

He’s always played around…

Entering his last year of college eligibility, linebacker Matthew "Matty" Iverson has the team captaincy in his sights. And it’s his for the taking, if he can convince his quarterback Ace Anderson to give up the starting position. Luckily, Matty already has an edge—the hottie he’s lusting over just happens to be Ace’s childhood best friend. Getting Lucy on his side and in his bed? Hell yeah. Matty is more than confident he can have both, but when he falls hard for Lucy, it’s time for a new game plan: convince the woman of his dreams that she’s not sleeping with the enemy.

MY REVIEW (Brandi)
5 STARS

I'm a sucker for the sports romance and Jen Frederick has managed to deliver every single time. First with Knox and Ellie and now with Luce and Matty.

Lucy isn't the most outgoing person. She likes to stay home, work at the coffee shop, and participate in mock trial.

Matty Iverson plays football, parties, and hooks up with random chicks because he can. I mean, if random chicks were throwing themselves at me, I'd take them up on the offer too.

Anyway, one random night, Matty finds himself in a coffee shop entranced by the blonde chick sitting hear him. How many times can one person sigh like that? Matty being the man he is engages her in conversation and attempts to ask her out. Attempts is the key word. Lucy turns him down. She isn't sure why this hottie is talking to her, but she knows he is a risk that isn't going to be worth the reward. Guys who look like Matthew aren't in it for the long haul.

So begins the exchange. The fun back-and-forth, the sexual tension, the forbidden romance. It's all here. It's so good that I finished this book in one day. I couldn't put it down. I had to know how Matty would win over his woman. He had several obstacles in his way: she didn't want to go out with him, she promised Ace (her best childhood friend and QB for the Warriors) that she wouldn't date any of his teammates, and he's Matty Iverson so he's known for his womanizing ways. Add these issues to the fact that Matty has to convince Ace to step away from the QB position and you can see that this is going to be a shit-show.

So how does Matty win over the girl? Read JockBlocked to find out. You'll laugh. You'll love. And odds are great you'll be turned on.

Rock is LIVE...

BLURB

He had it all. He lost it all. And all he wants now is a second chance.

RK Saber ran from tragedy five years ago when his car went over the side of a mountain in a prom-night crash. Consumed by guilt, he walked away from Juilliard and morphed into Rock, front man for the global rock-band sensation, Son of a Jack. Five members. Five best friends. Five rising stars burning so bright, they had to know it couldn't last.

When tragedy strikes again and the band goes from five to two, RK is sentenced to... home. Back to the place where all his nightmares started. Back to the memory of all the things he lost. Back to the reality he refused to face before he left.

The Vetti twins were identical in all ways but two. Melanie was insane and Melissa was not. One twin was killed on prom night five years ago and one twin was not. And now that RK has returned home, the twin left standing has quite a story to tell. Could she really be the girl he thought he'd lost forever? Or is Melanie just up to her same old tricks?

ROCK is a rock-star romantic suspense by the New York Times bestselling master of twist, JA Huss.

MY REVIEW (Brandi)
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review

5 STARS

Holy motherfucking shit what did I just read?! Oh, right, I read a Huss novel. I knew she'd blow my mind, but damn. I didn't see it happening like this. Where is the 6-star option?!

I don't know how to do this book justice. What can I say? I love Rock. His story is both hot and heartbreaking. It's a complete mindfuck of a book.

Rock is forced to go back home after a tragic accident leaves him unable to speak and on a type of house arrest--the type that is county wide and not limited to his home. He doesn't want to be there. Too many painful memories of his childhood, his lost love, and the town that he ran from when things hit rock bottom. He had to leave and now he is back.

Melissa and Melanie Vetti are the girls next door. TJ is Rock's brother. The four are inseparable during their childhood. Prom night changes everything.

After prom, Rock's world is turned upside down. He leaves his home and heads for LA. There he becomes famous. Headlining a world tour, he and his bandmates are unstoppable. So, what stops them? How and why does Rock end up back in Grand County? And why can't he speak to his drummer, Kenner? What's happening?!

This is where I leave you, with a bit of the story, but nothing to really tell you anything. JA Huss is a genius. I'm not sure if I can ever say that enough, but this book had me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning. I became hooked and couldn't stop reading it. I had to know what happened. I had to know who I could trust. I had to know the twist because it's Julie and there is always a twist. Just when you think you have it figured out, you don't. Don't even think you know what's gonna hit next because it probably won't. Or it will and it'll be 1000 times more than you ever thought possible.

Julie has a way of showing us the darker side of the mind (remember Merc?). And it's a ride like no other.

It's said that your life flashes before your eyes when you die.
It must only happen to those whose lives were worthy.
Clearly, mine was not.

The only thing that happened to me was a repeat of what I thought was my death.
The blast of the gun as it went off.
The loss of my breath as two hundred pounds of dead weight dropped on top of me.
And then darkness.
This replayed over and over.

When the guy squatted down next to me and asked if I was hurt, the only thing I could see, feel,
hear, were those few seconds.
Even now, as I sat in the back of a blacked out van—it was the only thing that ran through my mind.
Gunshot, breath, darkness.

MY REVIEW

6 I CAN’T CATCH MY BREATH STARS!!!! WTH just happened here??? I NEED MORE!!!!

“It’s said that your life flashes before your eyes when you die. It must only happen to those whose lives were worthy. Clearly, mine was not.”

Before I even begin to process my review here you need to take note, if you have not yet read Combative, you MUST, before you begin Redemptive! These books are NOT standalones and you will be 100% lost if you attempt to read them out of order!

Before I even attempted to begin Redemptive, I went back and did a complete re-read of Combative, and I’m extremely happy that I did. When I began Redemptive though, I was a bit confused for the first few pages, as I didn’t understand why we were beginning where we were… The massive cliff-hanger that ended Combative meant that we were due some answers right??? WRONG!!! Never under estimate the brilliantly devious mind of Jay McLean. She does things her own way and the minute you begin to think you know where she is headed with her stories, she flips it over and goes in the different direction. The path that this story follows is honestly one that I had never even considered. This is why in the beginning I was a bit confused, but that being said once I sunk into this book I could not put it down. This isn’t unusual for me, I tend to be consumed by an amazing story but when I pick up one of Jay’s books it’s truly 10 times worse.

“I guess some things are greater than the fears we hold on to.”

I’m not going to go into detail about the storyline or the characters in this review, simply because this book needs to be read without having any pre-conceived notions. Therefore this review will be 100% spoiler free.

“He owed me nothing. And I owed him my life.”

Jay McLean has been one of my favorite authors for what seems like forever now. I read More than This shortly after it released and I have read everything that she has published since. She is an auto click author for me simply because she never fails to deliver. Every book that she writes is pure magic. I open the pages and lose myself in the worlds she creates and the characters she brings to life. Combative and Redemptive are very different from the previous books that she has written, but that in no way makes them any less amazing. This series is a bit darker and each book gets more intense. Redemptive kept me guessing the whole way through; that being said when I reached the end I was positive I was missing pages. I mean she couldn’t possibly leave us all hanging like that again!!!! Could she??? OH YES SHE DID!!!! I wanted to launch my kindle across the room!!!! MASSSIVE CLIFFY LADIES!!!! I thought that this book would give me answers to all of the questions that I had when I finished Combative and that was my mistake, Redemptive does provide some answers but I found that when I was finished I had even more questions than I began with. *SIGH*

Jay McLean continues to prove time and time again that she is a master storyteller and with this book I found myself once again totally absorbed in the story and enamoured with the characters, even the ones that I hated in the previous book. My emotions ran completely amuck the further I read, and I found myself questioning everything. The web that has now been spun is intriguing to the point that you are unable to break away. I devoured it, I’m actually tempted to go back and read it all over again, and I just finished it. There will be a third book, that is confirmed and I could not be happier, because at this point I just need MORE! Jay McLean has once again done what seems impossible, she outdid herself… again! Each book that she writes is better than the last and up until today I would have sworn that she could not possibly top More than Enough but she did. Redemptive is, in my opinion the best piece of writing that she has ever created. I am so incredibly conflicted about so many things after reading Redemptive, but there is no question that it is a stellar piece of writing. Anything that evokes the types of feelings and thoughts that I had while I was reading, needs to commended. *STANDING OVATION OVER HERE*

I cannot wait to get my hands on book 3, and I pray that the release date is set soon; I cannot possibly wait another year. I NEED MORE AND I NEED IT NOW!!!!! Readers beware, this ride is about to get even wilder than you could have ever imagined.

“I inhaled her cries and let them consume me, I tasted her tears and let them destroy me, I gave in to her pleas and let them control me, and then she did the same with me.”
