More Than This ~ Jay McLean

~Synopsis~

*Mikayla*
In one night my fairytale ended. Or it may have begun. This is my story of friendship and love, heartbreak and desire, and the strength to show weakness.

*Jake*
One night I met a girl. A sad and broken girl, but one more beautiful than any other. She laughed through her sadness, while I loved through her heartbreak.

*This is our story of a maybe ever after.*

He was right. It made no difference whether it was 6 months or 6 years.
I couldn’t undo what had been done. I couldn’t change the future.
I couldn’t even predict it.
It was one night.
One night when everything changed.
It was so much more than just the betrayal.
It was the Tragedy.
The Deaths.
The Murders.
But it was also that feeling.
The feeling of falling.

5++ Emotional Stars!

This book starts out very much like many others, however it changes into something of it's very own pretty quick. It smacks you right upside your head. I never saw it coming. Senior Prom is where we start. Mikayla, Megan (Mikayla's best friend), and James (Mikayla's Boyfriend) are all out for dinner before the main event. When a unimaginable betrayal is revealed, the evening does not go as planned, understatement of the year here.

Mikayla ends up in a life changing situation that evening. Relationships are formed, broken, and lost. More Than This proves, that true friends are sometimes found in the most unlikely of places. There is still sometimes kindness among strangers.

This book made me run every range of emotion. It will give you all the feels. Parts of this story will literally rip your heart out. Others will make you laugh out loud. Sigh and swoon over the compelling romance unfolding before you. You will cry at least once during your read of More Than This, you have been warned.

Mikayla, Jake, Megan, James, Lucy, Cam, Logan, Heidi, Dylan, are all pretty colorful characters to say the least. The characters are amazingly well written, even if you want to cause bodily harm to some of them, more then once. They are all quirky, and unique in their own ways. Lucy pretty much cracked me up the whole way through, especially when she had too much to drink. That girl has the mouth of a drunken sailor, and she's a book junkie. I loved this. Mikayla and Lucy bond over their love of the same book, in a matter of minutes. Book Buddies Unite!

Jake has got to be one of the most unforgettable book boyfriends ever written. He's kinda a big deal... The compassion, sincerity, unwavering support, understanding,  and sheer adoration he shows Mikayla is what every girl on this planet wishes and prays for. In the times when she needs someone the most, he is always there.

"I'm not blind to the confused stares we're getting from the grownups, I just don't care. If she needs me, I'll be there." ~ Jake

The undeniable chemistry between Jake and Mikayla is evident from the moment they meet. Watching their story unfold was profoundly moving,  with the extreme circumstances that it is born from, it was so much more emotional to read.

"She's just, more than anyone else. We haven't slept together, we haven't even kissed, and she's just...more." ~Jake

"And I so much more than a lot love him, too" -Mikayla

More Than This has so many incredible passages. I may have over 100 highlighters on this book. I could go on for days about how fantabulous this book is. I adored More Than This, so much more than a lot, and I immediately downloaded the next, More Than Her. Jay McLean has a few new Fan Girl's after this. These books are not to be missed. Trust Me.

"He is absolutely everything the books tell you that boys should be. And if you were still here today, I would tell you, that in your future, do not settle for anything less than the Jake Andrews of the world. Because they exist, and not just in fairytales." ~ Mikayla

~Kristine's Review~

I  give this book more than 5 stars!!

Holy cow, where is the warning label?
It should say, "Caution - May cause excessive reading, trouble sleeping, stomach flutters, and a major book hangover!"
I had all of these and more! There is one thing that I  love when reading a great book - the emotions that I feel. Jay McLean's writing in this book makes all of that emotion spill out.The character development is perfect. I was able to get to know the main characters and love them like they were my friends! I also love the changing point of view in each chapter! I love getting into their minds and feeling what each character feels.

I enjoyed More Than This right from the beginning. The story opens with Mikayla getting ready for her prom.  This girl had it all, wonderful parents, a loving little sister, a great best friend, and loving boyfriend.  But as we learn, it all turns to dirt real soon.  Best friends and boyfriends are not always what they appear to be. Then Mikayla finds herself crying on the floor in front of a bathroom door.  Little does Mikayla realize, Jake Andrews, (he's kind of a big deal)was watching the whole time.  Jake becomes Mikayla's knight in shining armor. He invites her to join him and his friends at his prom! He is hot as hell and, did I mention, he has a super sexy accent?
I'm yelling, YES! Wait you don't even know him!

"I need to do something. I need to comfort her, to make sure she's going to be okay." ~Jake

Jake has some great friends. My favorites, Cam and Lucy.  Lucy is a bookworm who has an e-reader in hand at all times, loaded with steamy romance novels. I want her to be my book best friend! Cam her boyfriend, jokes about how he loves her reading these books because he gets some. Jake's friends are wonderful at welcoming Mikayla into their group.

You would think that the episode at the restaurant would be enough, "nope", and I make the "p" with a pop. (The characters in the book make the 'p' with a pop a lot.) The end of the night ends in a tragic event that no one should ever go through.  I'm going to stop here because of spoilery.

After this tragic event, Mikayla goes through many changes. There is something about Jake that she needs, he's her safe place. Jake changes that night, as well. There are these feelings that he has for Mikayla, that he has never had for anyone.  He needs to protect her. This is where all the feelings I mentioned before begin to emerge. Jake's sexy Aussie accent gave me goose bumps everywhere.  The sexual attraction is insane, many times my face was on fire, as well as other areas too!!   This story doesn't end in a cliff hanger, another thing I love. I am totally Fan Girling this book and I guarantee you will be too! Thank you Jay McLean for such a memorable read!

P.S - The second book in this series is out!  It's
called More Than Her.

"If I compare my feelings for Jake to anyone else, then I know. I know I've never loved anyone before. Not even a little bit.
Not even all."~Mikayla
